A Night at the Museum

Monday October 12th

5:30 PM - Dinner at Provo Brick Oven

7:00 PM - BYU Museum of Art - Ghiberti Exhibit

Come join us for an enlightening evening with dinner at Brick Oven followed by a special guided tour of the Ghiberti Gates of Paradise Exhibit at the BYU Museum of Art.

We have a room reserved at Brick Oven for our group under "David Tanner".  Everyone will be responsible for their own meal and you can order anything you like from the menu.  If you can't make the meal you can join us at the Museum of Art.  Guest parking for the BYU Museum of Art is available on the north side of the building. 

Our guide for the evening is Sharon Gray.  Sharon served as an Associate Professor of Art Education at BYU for 33 years and as Associate Director of the Springville Museum of Art for 12 years.  Sharon is uniquely positioned to guide us as she was instrumental in bringing this amazing exhibit to BYU.

The gilded bronze doors of the Florence Baptistry were the creation of Lorenzo Ghiberti.  The project was started in 1425 and took 27 years to complete.  

Michelangelo famously said of Ghiberti's doors "They are so beautiful that they would well serve to grace the doors of Paradise".  It was this reaction that earned the doors their iconic name, the Gates of Paradise.
